Empathy and management: how to make it a strength and where to stop?

In this first episode of "Pieds dans le Plat", the podcast that asks managers straightforward questions about their experiences, Claudio welcomes Augustin Tiberghien.

Augustin is Head of Customer Success France at Spendesk. In the space of 3 years, he has gone from managing a team of 5 to over 30 people. This meteoric growth has necessitated constant adjustments to his management style.

His team has expanded rapidly, but Augustin has never put aside his empathy, a quality he fully embraces in his role as manager, whether during great successes or more difficult times.

Augustin tells us how he has followed the evolution of his team without ever denying his empathy, fully assumed!

Augustin shares his experience with us:

  • Emotional intelligence and its concrete impact on team management.
  • Associating the emotional with the professional: situations where everything runs smoothly...and those where it doesn't
  • The challenges and difficulties of maintaining team cohesion in a difficult macroeconomic environment.
  • Transparency and communication, to better understand everyone's motivations and help them evolve
  • Preparing for difficult conversations, and in particular the importance of presenting concrete examples and bringing in outside help.

Augustin and Claudio also discuss the notion of resilience, and how to evolve one's management style throughout one's career, in complicated situations or at pivotal moments.

The importance of knowing oneself well in order to lead one's team to the top, while at the same time training oneself, is highlighted. Augustin benefited from 6 months of coaching, which boosted his ability to lead a team.
